Did the home poker game die ? I am not sure if it is alive or buried by the Internet poker boom. I grew up playing poker at home or at a friends house. With playing with live people I learned how to read their expressions and how their heart rate went up or down depending or their hand. Can you do that on the net ?
If you go to a casino to learn the game of hold-em it usually take quite a bit of cash to learn. At a casino you run into many different people who only have one thing on their minds and that is take your hard earned money. The best thing about a home game is that you play with people that you know and are not there just for your money. Most of the time there is a lot of conversation about different topics and is just a much more relaxed a venue.
Don’t get me wrong I have played both online and in a casino. The point I am trying to make is that in both the Internet and casinos you are playing with people that you really do not know. The problem with not knowing someone is that they are not going to help you learn how to play they are just going to keep taking your money and not help you learn how the game is really played. While at a home game with friends and family they will take the time and make an effort to teach you the rules, some strategy and what hand beats the others.
I know a lot of people are going to disagree with this blog. I am not condemning the playing of net poker or casino poker. I am just sharing an opinion about the game as I
see it. I feel the only real place to learn the game of poker is in a much more relaxed environment.
